DRAGA

Database of Reference Alleles and Genetic Ancestry

DRAGA is the first comprehensive whole-genome sequencing resource for the Bulgarian population, containing allele frequency data from 4,218 unrelated individuals sequenced at 30× depth on Illumina NovaSeq 6000. The database was built to address the significant underrepresentation of Southeastern European populations in global genomic databases such as gnomAD and 1000 Genomes.

The resource provides population-specific allele frequencies critical for clinical variant interpretation in Bulgarian patients, enabling laboratories to distinguish rare pathogenic variants from common benign polymorphisms enriched in the Bulgarian population compared to global references.

DRAGA is hosted under the Helena bioinformatics infrastructure (helena.bio) and is freely accessible to academic institutions via API. Clinical laboratories and hospitals may apply for Tier 3 access under a data sharing agreement.
